Dissecting the Embryo Using Single-cell RNA-Seq
Itai Yanai, Faculty of Biology, Lorry I. Lokey Interdisciplinary Center for Life Sciences and Engineering, Technion - Israel Institute of Technology,

In this talk, I will describe my lab's research in evolutionary developmental biology using global gene expression analyses. I will introduce CEL-Seq, a popular single-cell RNA-Seq method that my lab has recently developed. In particular, I will describe how we are using transcriptomics to ask: 1. how did the embryonic germ layers evolve?, 2. is there a gene expression program that is universal to all animals embryos?, 3. What can we learn about the organism when we know the transcriptome of each of its cells?
